Ross Johnson, Ph.D.

AHO Board Member

Ross Johnson received his Ph.D. from Iowa State University.  At the University of Minnesota (UM), he joined the faculty of the Genetics, Cell Biology and Development departments where he served for 40 years, including almost 10 years as a department head. For many years in Minnesota, Ross was an active board member for an organization working with at-risk youth . In 2008, he and his wife moved to Marin County.  Ross, now eager to contribute to his new community, is committed to supporting AHO by offering his experience in fund development and grant writing.  At UM, he supported his research laboratory for 40 years through federal grants (e.g., the National Institutes of Health), private agencies (e.g., the American Heart Association) and industry. He also has served extensively as a grant reviewer in the peer-review process used by federal agencies, which provided him expert experience on both sides of the funding fence. Ross’ funding expertise brings an invaluable contribution to AHO’s mission and future sustainability.  Since arriving in Marin, he has also become the new Chair of the Social Concerns Committee at Marin Lutheran Church, where he hopes to form a coalition of different faith-based groups to help fund and support the mission of AHO.
