The AHO Task Force Team was born in November,
2007 when Kevin Ippolito age 22, Amy Phelan, age 23 and Mario Rangel, age 21
conceived of finding a way to “give back” to AHO for the help they had
received. Their mission was to unite young people, ages 16 to 25 in
Marin, that were previously homeless, with the goal of designing youth-led
projects to foster awareness and bring funding to the organization that was
helping them to succeed.
In 3 years, this team has grown to over 25
members. They have designed dozens of successful projects and engaged the
community and businesses to create awareness about youth homelessness in
Marin. In 2008, they produced 5 Car Washes for a Cause. In
2009, they implemented the first youth-led Marin County homeless
census, one Festival for a Cause and the Youth Connect (where they
brought all the resources a homeless young person would need together in one
location). They produced the Youth Concert Fundraiser to celebrate AHO’s
5th Anniversary.
This year, Andrea Perleson, age 24, a previously
homeless youth, has been chosen to represent Marin County in the Miss CA
Pageant with “youth homelessness” as her platform.
